POETIC FORM:

I love to watch her play with fire,
to see her dance within the flame.
Her passion can my soul inspire.
As sparks fly from her fingertips,
my fever grows, it rises higher.
My consciousness begins to burn.
She will not slow; she does not tire;
and soon I will forget my name
— a Phoenix lit by her desire.

POETIC FORM:
Magic 9 – According to Robert Lee Brewer, this form is a newer form, relatively unknown, and appears to have been inspired by a poet misspelling the word “abracadabra.” There are no rules as far as meter or subject matter–just a rhyme scheme: abacadaba. (Remove the r’s from “abracadabra,” )
AUDIO FILE:
What magic makes my fever rise?
It’s your eyes!
What alchemy my heart beat trips?
Your hips!
How do you tempt me, charm me cruel?
I’m a fool!
You’ve lit a fire and fed it fuel!
You cause my soul to shake its wings —
my body does the wildest things!
It’s your eyes, your hips — I’m a fool!

AUDIO FILE:
there’s a fire in your bones
and you play with the flames
and I love just to watch
you make them dance
I have never seen you happier
than when you’re in that furnace
but when you’re struggling
and your body is tired
the sparks start to fade
and I wish I could light
the fire for you again.

AUDIO FILE:
She plays with fire
the way I play in ink.
Her blood is iron
and she knows the
heat of the forge–
it rages in her bones.
She is a poem,
written on I-beams,
a dozen stories high–
a rare breed, wolf
and metal-witch–
and I struggle
to find the words,
to describe her
as she burns.

Listen to Boilermaker —
Your ears ring with amber warnings
as the western horizon pulses orange.
The eastern sky wears a shroud of haze.
Dancing widdershins ’round the house,
The wind chants incantations through cracks,
spills in smoky pools beneath the doors.
These walls and floors breathe in —
barrel-chested men with wet burlap
fists — breathe out, beating back flames.
You lean against the upstairs window
silhouetted by sunset scorching distant hills.
Copper flames reel and stagger in your eyes.
When you turn to me, they sear my skin.
All the heat in my body rises meeting yours —
and invites you, with ink-singed fingers:
Come lie with me, as our flesh burns.
Let smoke fill your lungs, clear your head
of the spinning vertigo that haunts your soul.

AUDIO FILE:
When you let me —
I will love you fiercely.
I will be deliberate
aggressive and honest
in my commitment
to your good, your health
and happiness
When you let me —
I will love you relentlessly.
I’ll tell you with words
with ink and paper
and poetry, how
my love for you tastes
looks and smells,
sounds and feels
When you let me love you —
I will do it holistically.
I will let you inside my mind
show you my fears
and convictions
I will share all my emotions,
ecstasies and disappointments
my sorrow and my joy
When you let me love you —
I will surrender my body.
My arms and shoulders
all the breath in my lungs
offer up my ample hips
strong legs and my sex
I will lavish you with love
from my star-filled eyes
my mouth dripping words
and my ink-stained fingers
When you let me love you —
I will open my sacred spirit.
I will pour out my dreams,
my whimsy and wild-child imagination
I will love with all the magic and
wonder a universe can hold
I will love you, truly,
all your broken bleeding pieces
with all my cuts and bruises
we will be two breathtakingly
vulnerable lovers:
your different-drummer musical beat
and your paint-spattered heart
my bare feet in the grass
pure poetry in my veins
When you let me love you–
I will inspire you.
to dance with words
to spill your own ink
and you will move me to dance,
play with color, paint
with my own vibrant hues
I will borrow your convictions,
your mantras and passions
use them to fuel and alter my own
I will grow and evolve,
sculpt better versions of myself
I will share each and every one
— when you let me love you.
